MECP Announces New Basic Installation Technician Study Guide and Exam for 2010

MECP is pleased to announce that a newly updated and improved version of the MECP Basic Installation Technician Study Guide will become available on January 1, 2010! This new study guide contains fully revised topic areas from our current study guide, as well as information on newer technologies and skills such as:

  • Bluetooth;
  • Rear-view cameras;
  • Backup sensors;
  • Remote starters;
  • Mobile video;
  • OEM integration;
  • Portable device connectivity;
  • Reading wiring schematics;
  • …and much more!
The new guide and exam were written and refined by a group of MECP Master Installation Technicians and many of the absolute best minds in the 12 Volt industry. The revised Basic level study guide covers the latest installation techniques and best practices with the skill set and job duties of the Basic Installation Technician in mind.

In addition to new material in the Basic Installation Technician Study Guide, the revised MECP Basic Installation Technician Exam will be deployed on February 1, 2010. The test will feature the same number of questions as it does currently (150) but will cover a broader range of topics over five exam sections (instead of the current three sections). Many of the questions in the new exam will test knowledge only covered in the new version of the Basic Installation Technician Study Guide as the industry and knowledge base of the entry level technician has changed drastically even in just the last few years.

Those looking to take the MECP Basic Installation Technician Exam should note that effective February 1, 2010, test takers will only be able to take the new Basic Installation Technician Exam. Those who wish to take the old version of the MECP Basic Installation Technician Exam should take the exam before February 1, 2010.
