Three Cheers for MECP Supporters! Did you know that new MECP Master Installation Technicians receive a free one-year software subscription? Or, some MECP installed products receive warranty extensions? These are just two examples of how member companies of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) are supporting the MECP program. Keep reading to learn more. Retailers Best Buy offers compensation for achievement of MECP Basic and Advanced Installation Technician and will soon be adding additional compensation for MECP Master Installation Technician. Best Buy pays for employees to take the MECP exams after they have achieved a minimum score on a practice exam. In their 800 plus stores throughout the U.S., Best Buy recently added MECP signage in their mobile electronics demonstration areas and installation bays to reflect their dedication to the program. Ultimate Electronics has three levels of employment for its employees: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Installer. Each level requires a specific amount of experience and earns the installation technician a percentage of labor commission. They offer increased labor commission compensation for ALL levels of MECP certification. Car Toys rewards installation technicians who achieve MECP Advanced Installation Technician with a higher title and pay grade. In addition, they permit the installation technician to perform custom work. Manufacturers Memphis Car Audio offers a free one-year warranty extension on products that are sold and installed by MECP installers. This is in addition to their existing product warranty. Victory Technologies offers new MECP Master Installation Technicians a free one-year personal subscription to the company’s Installation Excellence software. This is not for replacement of a shop license or for multiple users; however, it is set-up this way to give the Master Installation Technician an extra tool that others may not have, providing them with even more of a competitive advantage. Alpine recommends that their customers seek MECP installation technicians in their marketing and consumer support communications. Special Non-Retail Services Navigation Solutions prefer job applicants that have their MECP certification over those that do not. Candidates with their certification are compensated a few percentage points higher than those without one. The company strives to have all of its employees MECP certified and say that it helps solidify their experience and installation abilities.
